The first "Robin Hood and Lil' John Archery Day" attracted 125 Cub Scouts and 55 Boy Scouts from the Greenwich Council, BSA. Run by Cos Cob members Craig Lanzoni and Bob Delaney, and held at the Ernest Seton Reservation in Greenwich, the event introduced many new fans to the sport of archery.
The event was kicked off by a long distance shooting demonstration held by Bob Bain and CCA's own Scott Ragone. This pair of talented archers threw arrows from 100 yards across Lake Heligas into 12" balloons, to the cheers and amazement of the crowd.
Manned by members of CCA and Greenwich Sportsmen and Landowners' Association, the event provided the boys with 5 shooting venues of standard field targets interspersed with balloons, CD's, and a variety of other "targets" to add to the enjoyment of the day. One of the most visited venues was "The King's Wood", a presentation of 3D animal targets which were loaned and/or gifted to the scouts by the club. The targets, which included deer, wolf, javelina, and bear, were the hit of the day.
Each scout was presented with an archery medal to commemorate the day, and trophies, also gifted by the club, were presented to the best archers in each age group.
